Believers Baptism, Baby Dedication Part 2

Laying on of Hands

Pastor Linda continues her series of sermons about the ordinances of the Church of the Brethren.

The priesthood of all believers is the Church of the Brethren. Clergy and laity are not separated. The HOLY WORD is our creed. Communion is what is in your heart. Baptism is an outward sign of what is in your heart. But what about babies? Children are under special grace. They are conceived of sin, but innocent of sin. Child dedication is a time for parents to recommit their own baptismal vows. Baptism and communion guarantees you nothing. It is in what is in your heart that brings you salvation.

The laying on of hands is about the praying that Gods gift, or will be done. It is to remind you of Gods calling of your life. Jesus Christ is the only way to receive the Holy Spirit, as long as you ask for it. You do not receive the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands, but affirming that the gift is already given.

Through scripture Jesus calls us to live as courageous disciples in word and action.

Who do you say I am?

Matthew 16:13-19

Linda starts her sermon with Matthew 16:13-19, where Jesus asks his disciples
"Who do you say I am?"
Peter answers "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
This is the beginning of the church.
Jesus is the Christ head and we are the body,
not to die by being alone, but to grow in the community of church.

I have a friend who does not belong to a church community, due to the hipocracy of some within the church. I responded that maybe she has not found the church community for her needs. I suggested she pray about it, and find a church community where she may grow.

The church is one foundation, where we are deciples to each other.

Mid-Atlantic Chicken Canning Project

April 3, 2013

The nation's only truck mounted, portable meat-canning unit
arrives in York, Pennsylvania for six days of operation in
March and April each year. Three operators work together with
volunteers from both Mid-Atlantic and PA Southern Districts
of the Church of the Brethren to can nearly 60,000 pounds
of chicken for distribution in both the U.S and outside
the U.S., serving the needs of families in poverty. According
to officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the
canner is the only operational portable unit in the
United States. During World War II, the Mennonites
developed the concept to quickly feed European war-ravaged,
hungry people. The canner and crew will travel to about
30 locations in 11 states during the spring and summer months.

I am in aw.

I am in aw. My first post to this Blog was on January 6, 2013, the first Sunday of 2013. I am amazed at how many people have found interest in Thurmont Church of the Brethren, and the preaching of God's message.
As of this date, 601 pages have been viewed, mostly done so on the weekends. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Our church community may listen, a second time, to Sundays sermon. Those that could not come to the church building on Sunday, may listen for the first time. The "Snow Birds", living south for the winter, may view events and listen to their home church sermon.
The message is also reaching beyond our little church community. Some may stumble upon us by accident, and if they listen to the message, I do not know. Some do listen, and return, like the person from Germany. It is amazing how the word of God, preached from Thurmont, Maryland, is reaching around the globe to Germany.
Many come here via thurmontchurchbrethren.blogspot.com. Some have found us via Facebook or Google+. Others may just web search something, and find us.
No matter how or why people find this blog, I hope the message of God is heard and enjoyed through the words of Pastors Linda, Becky, Steve, and Joanne.
This blog is another way to serve our purpose of "Making Christ Known, Loved, and Obeyed as God Equips and Empowers Us."

FYI: Look for  Sundays new posts later on Sunday evenings.
P.S.- In the past 26 hours, since I first posted this Blog page, there have been 26 page views of our Blog.
I am still in aw.

Judges 19:1-30

Todays sermon is most likely the most bizarre story in the Bible.
It is a doozy, and not for children.
A link is above, so you may read along as Linda reads about the Levite and his Concubine.

He is also mentioned in Acts 11:19 & Acts 22:20.

After the service, a Souper Bowl Lunch offered by our youth, serving 3 delicious soups, grilled cheese sandwiches and a yummy assortment of desserts.

Experiencing God's Presence

This was today's sermon. Linda was powerful with her
text from the Bible and her personal experiences.
Made me think about my life with Christ,
and his presence with me.

Breath on me, Breath of God.

Sorrow Looks Behind; Worry Looks Around; Faith Looks Ahead

Todays service is lead by Pastor Joanne Gaver, and it is all about faith.

Today was also the first 3rd Sunday Childrens Sermon.
They enjoyed puppet ministry and treated the congregation with a song
at the end of the service. Here is the video.

Largest structure in the universe is found - and it's mind-boggling.

Pastor Linda brought this up in her sermon last week, and continues this week.
Man tends to think that the Earth is it, and anything else does not matter. The bible says otherwise, and science continues to prove what a wonderful universe God has created.
Enjoy this weeks sermon.

Thurmont Church of the Brethren is going viral.

Bear with me as I get our church online.

I asked Pastor Linda if she would mind having her sermons go online, so that those that can not make it to Sunday service, may still hear her sermon. She was very open to the idea.

I am attempting to do this to benefit the whole church community. I would like to post a prayer list, an audio or video sermon or whole church service, a monthly calender, photographs, and what ever you may suggest to include. I want to make this all user friendly.

To contact Susan, the administrator of this site e-mail ThurmontChurchBrethren@Gmail.com.

*You may now hear the sermon by clicking the link below "Listen to the Sunday Service".
*You may keep updated to church activities, through this blog, by submitting your e-mail address.
*Keep up with the Church Calender, with a Gmail account. You may also add to and update the calender.
*We are social friendly with Google+. Just click the link.
* I will post a blog a week, with that weeks sermon.
*Add to and view the Prayer List
